Helicopter Elopement at MOUNT ASSINIBOINE, BC
Amanda & Mo
Eloping at Mount Assiniboine
This Rocky Mountain helicopter elopement was nothing short of a dream come true. From the first time we hiked up in 2017, Mount Assiniboine has stood out as one of the most beautiful landscapes we have ever seen. Referred to by many as the "Matterhorn of the Canada", it's the highest peak in the Canadian Southern Rockies. This is a special place that to reach, takes some planning and a lot of luck. Permits and hut reservations usually open to the public in January for the proceeding summer, and book out in an instant. When Amanda and Mo decided this was the place they wanted to exchange vows, all four of us kept our fingers tightly crossed. When the morning came, we were on redial to the lodge hoping to score a hut. Hundreds (thousands? Seriously, my call count just stopped after 400) of call attempts later, Amanda got through and we had our permits.
A Cabin in the Woods
On a summer morning in July, our luck continued as we awoke to clear skies and sunshine in Canmore. The day was finally here! Amanda had a vey early start getting her hair and makeup done by the amazing team at Lily & Lace. We loaded our packs and headed to the helipad. The views from the helicopter were STUNNING, taking us over Marvel lake and along the Great Divide which separates British Columbia from Alberta. We arrived in the park, unloaded our bags and found our hut - nestled in the woods under towering peaks, cozy fire place included.
one spectacular sunset ceremony
After what can only be described as the most beautiful first look ever, we strapped dress and suit to packs and set out to reach the ceremony site. We followed the trail through the trees and up to the ridge. As the sunlight dipped lower, we climbed higher, coming to a secluded spot that overlooked the lakes below. We will never forget this hike and the special ceremony that followed. Amanda and Mo are two of the kindest souls we've ever worked with and we are beyond grateful that they chose us to capture these magical moments.
We couldn't believe that even after hiking back in the dark, these two were up at 4am the next morning for sunrise portraits at the lake! A peaceful morning shared only with a family of bald eagles and the full moon. This is what we live for.
some words from our bride
"The moment we had our first video call, I knew they would be the perfect photographers for us. They were so down to earth and friendly and clearly had a huge passion for their work. We were unsure of where we wanted to get our pictures done for our elopement so Emily and Colin provided us with many amazing options and detailed information on how each option would work. They came up with the idea of taking a helicopter up Mount Assiniboine and staying in the Naiset huts for a few nights and we fell in love with the idea. The booking for the huts opens one morning in the spring and basically fills up for the entire summer in less than 2 days, which was nerve wracking as we had our heart set on Mount Assiniboine. Emily and Colin were traveling at the time the bookings opened up, but even though they were busy, they both spent the day on the phones calling the one line open for booking thousands of times to help us get one of the coveted spots.
After we got our booking, they sent us all the information we needed to pack and even let us borrow some of their gear as we were coming from Ontario to BC and couldn't bring everything we needed on the flight. We spent two night at the Naiset huts with them and the third day we hiked the whole day back to the helipad. We instantly became such good friends and we had the best time with them. The pictures they got of us were absolutely incredible - they knew all of the best spots for pictures, helped us get both sunrise and sunset shots, and went above and beyond getting other shots of us throughout our 3 days together. Emily and Colin made sure our special day was absolutely perfect and we are so so glad we met them! We would recommend them one hundred thousand percent and we plan on going out to BC again sometime just to visit!"
